The University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Pharmacy and the Association of Criminologists, Criminologists and Security Managers, under the auspices of the University of Sarajevo and the ISEO Permanent Scientific Committee, successfully organized the 55th International Symposium on Essential Oils - ISEO 2025. The symposium was held from September 7 to 10, 2025 at the Holiday Hotel in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The ISEO symposium has been held every year since 1968, and this year as organizers we were given the exceptional opportunity and honour to organize such an outstanding symposium in Sarajevo.

NMRWe are pleased to invite you to participate in a short, two-day educational course entitled:

"Structural Elucidation of Organic Compounds by NMR: A Practical Approach"

The course will take place on 15.-16.07.2025., at the University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Pharmacy. (15.07.- from 11:00 to 15:00 and 16.07. - from 12:00 to 16:00)

Led by Prof. Luciano Barboni (University of Camerino, Italy), the course will offer a practical introduction to the use of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in the structural elucidation of organic compounds. Participants will engage with both theoretical concepts and practical examples, including analysis of real spectra and problem-solving exercises.

Agenda:

  • Meeting 1 (2h): Introduction to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.
    1H-NMR and 13C-NMR: A Practical Approach
  • Meeting 2 (2h): Introduction to Advanced Mono- and Two-Dimensional NMR Techniques.
    A Practical Approach
  • Meeting 3 (2h): Structural Elucidation of Organic Compounds by NMR – Part 1
  • Meeting 4 (2h): Structural Elucidation of Organic Compounds by NMR – Part 2
  • Meeting 5 (2h): Structural Elucidation of Organic Compounds by NMR – Part 3

Permeatest In 2024, team from University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Pharmacy participated in the full cycle of the EIT-funded EIT InfraBooster programme. The programme was based on a comprehensive methodology developed by the University of Warsaw and enriched through extensive knowledge transfer and mentoring support offered by University of Warsaw in collaboration with the EIT Communities.

As a result of this participation, a new service Permeatest: Permeation testing services  was designed, developed, and successfully introduced to the market.

Permeatest offers the testing of permeation of substances across biological membranes, especially focusing on the skin. This service is especially designed for cosmetic companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Balkans wanting to be compliant with the EU regulations, where we offer permeability studies for formulation optimization and safety assessments.

We also offer consult in optimization of your formulation for improved efficacy and safety.

Our Team involvement included:

  • Participation in the EIT InfraBooster Foundation module, enhancing knowledge on research infrastructures (RIs) potential applications and analytical skills for evaluation and identification of the commercially viable RIs;
  • Participation in the in the EIT InfraBooster Practitioner module, which supported the end-to-end design of new services leveraging RIs at scientific institutions. This included: analyzing the unique capabilities of RIs, identifying potential industrial partners, initiating industrial outreach, preparing and refining marketing materials that communicated key differentiators and client benefits, identifying potential clients, and initiating the sales process. These activities were guided by tailored individual and team mentoring offered by University of Warsaw, and culminated in presenting the service concept during the EIT InfraBooster demoday pitch finals. The key value proposition of the new service was also featured in the EIT InfraBooster services catalogue: https://heyzine.com/flip-book/ba48e1f379.html#page/1

 Dear colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to the scientific conference “Non-animal approaches in biomedical education” organized by the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Pharmacy and the Organisation for Animal Rights and the Environment EVA.

The conference will be held on November 14th - 15th 2024 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The conference aims to promote alternatives to animal testing and other adequate innovations in the education of pharmacists and other biomedical workers by raising awareness of New Approach Methodologies (NAM), which are particularly important in the discovery and development of new drugs, as well as exploring the needed shifts towards greater representation of these approaches in university teaching and learning.

We invite academic pharmaceutical and other biomedical staff and students as well as the other interested stakeholders to actively participate in the Conference, which we hope will serve as a platform to explore the needs and future of educational advancement of non-animal approaches in biomedicine.
